First, this was published as a pin-up for Musings #4 in 1994 and then again for the 1995 SDCC limited edition version of said book. The next time this was used was for the 1997 phone card set. Finally, a section of this piece was used for the cover of the Spanish Sketchbook, Kaleidoscope (2001). The original scan from Musing #4 was also used inside as a pin-up. This would also become the inspiration for the cover of Hellboy in Hell: The Descent which was drawn decades later. The published images for some of these are slightly different since Mike filled in the moon rays later on- He thought it looked better without them. Mike drew a piece in late 1994 called "Lucifer", he swiped parts of this Hellboy image but filled in the rays. After the Lucifer piece, Mike went back to touch up the Hellboy.
